Photobie version 2.8.4 is released on 9/27/2006

New: version 2.8.4 enlarged the brush image size; enhanced embedded filters; added a switch button to see layer list as icon list in the layer manager; fixed bugs related to undo.

New: version 2.8.2 added set of customizable brushes. Simply put your brush image files (.jpg) under "brushes" subdirectory.

New: version 2.8.2 also enhanced the flash player to be able to work Adobe flash player 9. It works more smoothly now! In addition, more embedded filters are added, especially the blur filters are improved. More photoshop filter plugins are also included.

Photobie features:

New: Flash Player

Fancy player allow user to play list of flash files (.swf) repeatly and selectively.

New: Gif animation

create gif animation with/without transparent in a simple way.

New: allow varies delay for different animation frames.

General Photo editing tool:
resize, rotate, flip, color balance adjust (includes brightness, contrast, saturation, cool-warm color, gammar, alpha);
copy, cut, paste, paste as new image, crop (done by combining copy and paste as new image);
selection (includes rectangle, square, oval, circle, polygon, free hand selection tool as well as Magic Wand too), you can select complex region by using selection modes such as Single, Union, Exclude, Intersect and XOR, you can also invert the selection.
selection region can be moved or resized when you keep the selection mode in Single Mode.

version 2.5.6 added selection centralization and rotate feature.

version 2.6 added a collection of premade selection template and allow user to add new selection templates to the collection. Furthermore, Version 2.6 includes a Flash player that allow user to play a list of flash file (.swf) in local or remote url. User can also define their own play list to play flashes repeatly and selectively.

Image format supported:
Bmp, Png, TIF,
Gif --- support transparent hight quality encoding Gif.
Ico --- can save image as true color Icon with 64x64, 48x48, 32x32, 16x16 sizes.
Jpg --- support various encoding quality (1--100)
Pob --- Photobie specific multi-layer image format. format used to keep the work in progress for future retouching.

Multi-layer features:
support unlimited layers;
layer merge, flatten;
whole layer copy, paste, clone within current image or cross images;
layer move, resize, rotate, flip, color balance, move up/down;
layer opacity (transparency) adjust;
layer transparent color adjust;
selected layer region copy/paste/cut;
layer hide, lock;
layer support filter effect;
layer eraser.

New: allow recovery of deleted layers

version 2.5.5 added color channels adjust, color replacement tools.

Painting feature:
draw shapes as rectangle, square, oval, circle, line, dash line, polygon, free hand, curve, it support gradient color
fill shapes as recangle, square, oval, circle, polygon, free hand, it support gradient color
bucket fill tool (you need to make selection first and fill the selection, a little different than other paint software)
Real Pen tool (includes solid pen, dot pen, hollow pen, 3D pen)
Airbrush tool
Bug trace tool (for fun)
Smudge tool (most useful tool for Photo retouching)
Layer (soft/hard) eraser tool for erasing layer
Color picker tool for getting specific color from existing image

New for 2.5.1: Makeup tool: simply choose paint color and use this tool to makeup the spot with this color. If you set the paint color as white then it works as dodge tool, if you set it as dark brown then it works as burn tool. )

!!! all draw,fill, smudge painting operations (except erase) will automatically generate new layers if you have the auto layer generation checkbox checked on Layer Manager ToolBar, you can use layer merge or flatten tools.

Text editing feature:
Support most system fonts;
High quality text;
Gradient color support;
3D text effect;
(text will be added as a new layer, you can then adjust it as a new layer; 3D effect will generate two layers)

Filters:
Photobie support filters for both the whole image or a single layer. When filter get applied to whole image, an new layer is generated.
current included filters:
smooth, Gaussian blur, sharpen, Laplacian, Jitter effect, Time Warp effect, Water effect, Globe effect, Swirl effect, Pixelate, Edge detection, Gray, Negative, 3D frame, customizable convolution filter, 3D drop shadow effect (only for layer), 3D tilt effect (only for layer)
More filters will be available soon.

Undo and Redo support:
keep in mind that Photobie support Undo and Redo under the layer level, which mean all operation applied to specific layer can be undo/redo,
However, if new layer generated,merged or removed then you need to use recovery tool and layer remove tool on Layer Manager. For example, if you draw any rectangle, then a new layer with that rectangle is generated, you have to remove or hide that layer using layer management tool.

Image Directory Browser:
supply the largest screen for browse images under specific directory
can open as many directories and switch between them quickly
browse through directory through mouse click or arrow keys
zoom in/out
auto fit,
raw image info list
general image info list
support full screen view
batch delete, resize, rotate
switch between image editing mode and browsing mode
fast thumbnails load.

new: added full screen slide show, simply switch to full screen show through the toolbar, and in the full screen mode, press space key to start slide show (5 seconds for each), press space key again will stop the slide show, while in full screen slide show, you can still use arrow keys to move forward/backward or use plus/minus key to zoom in/out your image.

Screen Capture Features:
Support Screen Capture hotkeys, you can setup up to 8 hotkeys for screen capture, you can set the hotkey to capture full screen or active window(with/without cursor) or predefined region and shape, and export to Photobie as new image or simply to clipboad or to specified program that can take an image filename as command line argument.
Support quick capture mode with notification icon on the right bottom of you window. right click on the photobie icon there and select a capture mode. press Enter key after you selected your desired region to capture .
You can also capture the color to the Photobie color label of paint toolbar.

New: The autoscroll screen capture is different than other screen capture softwares. It is more adaptive, it allows you to scroll the screen down by youself and capture multiple portions for the active window you just scrolled, and merge them together automatically

Framing feature:
Photobie simplifies the digital photo framing process. You can design your favorite frame template and then apply to other photos quickly. In fact if you know how to use multi-layer feature, you will see how simple it is.
Photobie main gallery contains more than hundreds finished frame image, you simply download those images for free and set the transparent color and apply to your photos.

Great addition with a RGB color channels curve adjustment tool. Now you can adjust your photo color more precisely and flexiblely

Photobie 3.0 is available today.

It has new GUI with many enhancement, it allows to draw with all kinds of texture. In terms of image brush, it can apply original image as brush, however, you'd better to create transparent gif/png file to put in brushes directory, otherwise original image will be totoally covered.

Now you can save your selection easily with selection buffer as well customized selection list. you can swith between them freely.

Another new feature is the palette grid control, such control will allow you to put some temporary color set over there and use them whenever you need them. it allows you open/save such palette. To add new color to such palette is fairly easy, just point to whatever grid, and press 'a' key to add and press 'd' key to delete.

Meanwhile, I implemented batch layer copy tools, it is already in the layer manager toolbar, Also I implemented batch layer crop features to enable you crop all checked layers at once.

Well it's a big release, I hope I can got some time to catch up with new tutorials as well as feature documentation.

Photobie 3.01?

Version 3.0.1 added screen capture as new layer flag. Such tool allow user to capture series of screenshots as multiple layers, which can turn into GIF animation directly.

Version 3.1.1 enhanced sharpen filter and text tool. In this new version text quanlity is much improved, it also supports textures and patterns associate with text. The text font, size controls are moved to the main GUI. No need to set background color, the paint color will be the font color, so you can set font color easily by click on the color wheel or the palette.

version 3.2 is published today 3/28/2007

Enhanced GIF animation, optimized GIF output, fixed the problem for displaying generated GIF animation on IE7.

Added layer mask feature. User can turn general layer into mask layer. An tutorial for using mask feature will be available soon.
